All life is rooted in nature and there is a symbiotic relationship between nature and the people who live in it. The natural world is captivating, and we are all dependent on it. The balance of this symbiosis is fascinating. I am awestruck by the calm and grace of nature. It also transcends me to a spiritual encounter with God. With the abundant beauty of nature around us, I am delighted when I let the natural world in to reveal itself. I am especially enthralled with the up-close details that tend to get neglected. Nature has always been a source of inspiration and continues to influence the way I live and my sense of expression that is found in my artwork. I tend to create my work from macro images of my experiences. By relating my work to experiences, it immerses me into the memories of a specific moment.
My work is rooted in printmaking techniques and merged with other mediums. It resonates with me both creatively and analytically. I work intuitively and welcome any surprises that happen along the way, engaging in the results as they happen. I continually explore other traditional and experimental printmaking techniques. These techniques give me the opportunity to engage in many possibilities with my subject matter.
Currently, I am working on the Ocular Eclipse series. This series was born from a solo travel adventure to the east coast. Through observation of the natural world and the people in it, I became hyper-aware of how as a culture, we see but do not really see anything at all. There are so many awe-inspiring details in our environment that vanish into our periphery. These concepts and exploration of nature inspired this series. This awareness reminds me to always be present and to truly see what is right in front of me ~ Daylene Horn
