Arts Fandango

There is a point in every artist journey when they have to decide whether or not they want to exhibit their work or not.  This choice came out of the blue for me. It was not something I have given much thought to. The community college was having a fundraiser for an Art Scholarship fund and were asking for students, local artists, and faculty to donate works for a silent auction. My current instructor asked if anyone was interested in donating a piece. At first I was very apprehensive but then decided I would. I donated a couple of my linocut prints.

Creating art is a way of expressing your inner self. It is your choice to let someone see your creation and let them into that part of your soul. Exhibiting your work can make you feel a little vulnerable. You are opening  yourself to the outside world and its opinions. I think you have to be aware of what that could mean and not let what others think or say about your artwork. You have to remember in the end it is what you think about your work. It is part of who you are, what makes you whole.

The show was last night and it was a good evening. I felt good about the whole experience. I enjoyed visiting with others at the event. I saw past instructors, classmates, and more. I was not sure how I would feel about seeing my work hanging on the wall. It was actually very gratifying to see it exhibited with lots of other artists. I was happy that their were bids on both my pieces. The bids weren’t high but it’s kind of exciting to think that my artwork is framed and hanging on someone’s wall. If nothing else it was a great way to start getting my name out their should I decide to continue showing my work.

I also bid on a few pieces throughout the night. In the end, I walked away with a couple of nice pieces. A collogrpah print and an encaustic painting.

It was a great evening…..
