It is essential for me to create time to play in the studio. To go into the studio with no plan, no perceived notion of what you want to work on, or even what medium you’re going to play with and have a great sense of awe. It is a time of no judgement or expectations. This playtime is essential for new ideas and processes.
My latest play session was with some inks, paper and a lot of water.

The first experiment was done with walnut ink, India ink on 20# translucent bond. After applying the ink to the paper, it was completely submerged in water. The bond did not hold up in the water.

It was disappointing that the paper completely fell apart but it was not a complete loss. This produced so many beautiful pieces that will make some fabulous chine colle or collage pieces.
Next, the same process was done on some 45gsm mulberry paper. This produce much better results. The mulberry held up nicely to this process.

I liked the combination of the walnut and India ink.
Some fun playtime!
Happy playtime with no judgement!
